Eligibility, enrollment, and registration
Who is eligible to enroll in the Academy?
The WECAN Academy was created for patients and patient advocates to grow their skills and expertise in European cancer patient advocacy. The Academy has an open-access policy. This means anyone who is interested in the courses offered is welcome to enroll in the WECAN Academy. You must be at least of legal age of consent to enroll in the WECAN Academy.
Individuals who would benefit from our online courses are generally motivated and independent self learners.

How do I enroll and register?
Anyone who would like to participate in our courses will need to Enroll in the WECAN Academy and create a learner profile.
There are two ways to accomplish this:

We know oftentimes you can be part of multiple groups. Please select the one most relevant to you. We use this information to tailor our platform to you.
There are two ways to accomplish this:
- After clicking “Enroll”, simply connect with one of your social network accounts. It's the easiest way by far since you don’t need to remember yet another password. To create an account, click on the button corresponding to the social network you prefer to use and follow the process. You will be asked to confirm your email address, so make sure that you enter a valid email address.
- The second option for creating a new account is using your email. After entering your name and valid email address, click on the Create Account link that can be found in the login form.

I have registered. What happens next?
If it’s the first time you enrolled in our platform, you will need to confirm your account. Check your email that you registered with or that is associated with your social network account. Once you have logged in, you are free to register and take courses available that interest you. Navigate to the course and register. Courses will be available immediately after registering.
What if I change my mind and do not want to continue learning?
If you would no longer like to take courses offered by the WECAN Academy, we can delete your account for you. Please email us at Academy@wecanadvocate.eu or use the contact form to submit your request.

Technical requirements
What are the technical requirements for taking an online course?
All courses require an internet connection. You are free to take any course on your desktop, laptop, phone, or tablet.
What do I do if I need technical assistance?

Courses and cost
How much does an online class cost?
Unless otherwise stated, all courses are free for patients and patient advocates.
How long does it take to complete a course?
Each course is different in content and goals. The time needed to complete each course will vary. View the course page and sections to learn more.
When can I start taking a course?
Courses are self-paced and available on-demand. You can start taking the course as soon as you register for it.
Do courses have certificates?
After completion of some courses, a certificate of completion/participation may be available for download. Courses are not currently accredited.
How do I get access to the class materials?
If you are enrolled in a course you will have access to the whole course contents. In most cases, the contents are not available for download. Certain material, like PDF files or presentations, may be available for download. This will be indicated with a paperclip icon inside the course player.

How do I navigate inside a course?
Once you access a course, you will find a full table of contents on the left-hand side of the screen. You can browse through the sections and access the learning unit you would like to study. Note that learning units that you have visited/completed are marked with a discrete checkmark.

How is the WECAN Academy developed?
The WECAN Academy is developed by patient advocates and experts for patient advocates and patient organizations. The Academy is growing and we look forward to adding more course content soon.
How is the WECAN Academy Funded?
Funding for the WECAN Academy was administered by the European Patient Advocacy Institute (formally EUPATI gUG) and supported by industry and non-industry funders. The funders had no role in course development.
